About
The Richmond Sockeyes are a storied Junior B ice hockey team based in Richmond, British Columbia, competing in the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL). Established in 1972 by Bruce Allison, a dedicated hockey advocate, the Sockeyes were created to develop local talent while allowing players to stay close to home and continue their education. Over the decades, the team has built a legacy of excellence, capturing nine PJHL championships, six Cyclone Taylor Cup provincial titles, and two Keystone Cup National Junior B Championships.
As a former Junior A powerhouse, the Sockeyes played in the BC Junior Hockey League (BCJHL) and achieved national success, winning the Centennial Cup in 1987 as Canada’s top Junior A team. Today, they continue their winning tradition in the PJHL’s Tom Shaw Conference, calling Minoru Arena their home.
With a strong commitment to player development, the Richmond Sockeyes have nurtured numerous athletes who have advanced to higher levels of hockey, including major junior, collegiate, and professional leagues. Known for their fast-paced play, disciplined team structure, and passionate fan base, the Sockeyes remain a dominant force in British Columbia junior hockey.
