Lunch & Learn Webinar: Changes to the Unionization Process - What BC Employers need to Know
September 15, 2022 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (PDT)
Description
Take your lunch hour to learn valuable information. This webinar is open to members of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce.
On June 2, 2022, Bill 10 – 2022: Labour Relations Code Amendment Act, 2022 received Royal Assent and became law. This amendment to BC's Labour Relations Code changed the process in BC for union certification. A union can now be certified in a single step without a vote by automatic or “card-check” certification in cases where 55% or more of the employees in the proposed bargaining unit sign union membership cards. If union membership cards are signed by 45% to 55% of the employees, a secret ballot vote must be held by the Labour Relations Board (LRB) to determine employees’ wishes.
This is a significant change from the two step certification process that has been in place since 2001. This webinar is designed for employers in non-union workplaces. Join us to learn more about the scope of this amendment, and what you and your team could expect in the years ahead.
